Structured chronologically, Enriching the Everyday guides audiences through Grant’s self taught endeavours, the establishment of Featherston Design, and Mary’s contributions to the design of play and learning environments in Australia. The identity created emphasises the balance between the two subjects, depicting furniture associated with Grant in a connect-the-dots style that references Mary’s work with children and learning environments. It aims to make media theory and the expert opinions of academics accessible to general audiences. The identity was designed to counter connotations of what an Orwellian society may look like (i.e. grey, solemn, formal), instead opting for a colourful, game-like, glitchy visual language. It also represents that our preconceptions of what an Orwellian society looks like may be outdated, with its reality hiding in plain sight. The direction of this campaign was informed by participants’ responses to the design research kit. Targeted towards teenagers aged 12 to 17, the manual is designed to help the kids that could only cluelessly look on as the adults played at family gatherings. The notoriously complex and lengthy game often involves players paying money to the winner. The playing manual features basic rules of Hong Kong Mahjong, as well as a modified version that can be played entirely as a strategy game, without the additional rules required when exchange of money is present. The playing manual is accompanied by a slider with combinations of Mahjong tiles and their corresponding name in English and Cantonese.
